The engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity – the Chief Medical Officer guidelines recommend that all children and young people aged 5 to 18 engage in at least 60 minutes of physical activity a day, of which 30 minutes should be in school.

2024 - 2025 Expenditure

1. The engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity

Intent

  • Ensure all children have the opportunity to participate in the recommended two hours a week of physical activity.
  • To increase participation within PE/sport during lunch times.
  • Continuing professional development
  • Increase outdoor learning

Implementation

  • Progressive sports- PE specialists – (PE lessons and lunchtime games)
  • Daily sports club at lunchtimes
  • Training a member of staff to lead Forest schools £105 per day x 5 cover and release time

  • £1125 – Forest School

Impact

  • Pupils understand why physical activity is important.
  • Children develop a positive outlook on physical activity which will help them to keep fit, build strong bones and muscles, control weight, and reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression.
  • Children feel fitter and have a sense of achievement
  • Schools should focus their efforts on upskilling the whole staff workforce so that they feel confident and able to lead a PE lesson independently.

Sustainability and suggested next steps

  • Use this year’s feedback from pupils and analysis from registers to identify what engages our pupils.
  • Extend this next year.
  • Create a Forest school area within the school. Forest School training will involve pupils from across the school on outdoor activity. Train other members of staff to support the Forest School Leader.

  • Ensure all pupils have access to a broad range of high-quality PE lessons (PE specialists to support staff in planning, delivering and assessing lessons).
  • Celebrate pupil’s achievements, both in and out of school, in a range of PE/sports assemblies and newsletters.
  • Use the house system to further promote sport / Sports day

  • Use high quality, experienced PE specialists from Progressive Sports to plan, assess and deliver the sports curriculum alongside the class teacher.
