Dear Parents and Carers,
I am writing to inform you about our upcoming celebration of World Book Day, which will take place on Thursday, 6th March. This day is an excellent opportunity for our students to immerse themselves in the joy of reading and to celebrate literature in various creative ways.
On this special day, we encourage children to dress up as their favourite book character, or to wear a colour that represents a literary genre they enjoy.
- Fiction: Green
- Poetry: Yellow
- Non-fiction (biographies/autobiographies): Grey
- Action and Adventure: Orange
- Mystery/ Fantasy/ Science fiction: Purple
- Comedy and Humour: Red
- Historical fiction: Blue
- Horror: Black
- Fairy Tale/ Fable/ Folktale: Pink
Additionally, we are excited to announce that there will be a Scholastic book fair held in the school hall on Thursday, 6th March and Friday, 7th March, from 3:20 pm to 4:00 pm. This presents a wonderful opportunity for children and families to explore a variety of books and to purchase new reads to enjoy at home.
Throughout the day, each class will participate in a ‘Biscuits and Books’ session, where children are encouraged to bring in their favourite book to read and share with their classmates. This interactive element aims to foster a love for reading and to enhance children’s communication skills, while enjoying a selection of biscuits provided by the school.
We are also excited to inform you that we will be taking part in a Trust-wide writing competition. The children will write their own narratives based on themes selected from their interests and suggestions. This initiative aims to inspire creativity and foster the development of writing skills. Moreover, students will engage in a variety of other book-related activities designed to celebrate the joy and importance of reading. We believe that these experiences will not only enrich their understanding of literature but also build a strong reading community within our school.
Thank you for your continued support of our initiatives to promote literacy and a love of reading. We look forward to celebrating this exciting day with your children.
Yours sincerely,
Miss Lacy | Assistant Principal
